Review: Love Street Living Foods

November 6, 2010

Remember when I showed you all the snacks I hauled down to Oklahoma City with me? Some of those (like Pure Bars, Cavewoman Bars, and Zhena’s Gypsy Tea) are products I’ve already reviewed on this blog. Several of the others are items I will be reviewing here. One of those brands, which I’m excited to finally talk about, is Love Street Living Foods.

Love Street Living Foods is a company that offers offers 100% organic, unprocessed living foods, both their own and other brands’. Every single item in the Love Street online store, from ingredients to prepared foods, is:

• Living/raw, with all nutrients, enzymes, vitamins, and minerals bio-available as nutrition.
• Vegan (with the exception of pure raw organic honey).
• 100% unprocessed; free from toxins and carcinogens created when food is cooked.
• Produced without animal testing or pesticides.
• 100% free of refined sugars, hydrogenated oils, gluten, natural flavors, MSG, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), food additives, and refined flour.

With a resumé like that, you can imagine why I was so happy when Aparna at Love Street offered to send me some samples.

This Vanilla Cookie Crumble Cereal is from their own Love Street Originals line of products. Containing only coconut, almonds, pumpkin seeds, figs, agave nectar, sea salt, vanilla bean, cinnamon, and ginger, it’s the kind of snack I’d make in my own kitchen. It comes in big chunks, rather than crumbles, and is nutty in flavor and delightfully crunchy. As a result, it went perfectly with this pair of ultra-soft dates.

Love Street carries a nice selection of Artisana products, and sent me a 1-oz. sample jar of the macadamia nut butter to try. As much as I adore nut butter, though, I have to say I was more excited for the chocolate spreads!

They sent me two: their original chocolate spread and their chocolate coconut spread.

Similar to my raw chocolate ganache, these spreads both contain agave nectar, cacao, and vanilla. The chocolate coconut spread also includes raw coconut butter! Although I thought of many treats I could put these on or in, I wound up eating both spreads either slathered on a banana or straight out of the jar.

Thanks again to Aparna at Love Street Living Foods for the samples!

Even cooler, though, is that Love Street has created an offer just for you, my dear readers.
Until Wednesday, November 10, 2010, get 10% off your entire order at lovestreetlivingfoods.com by using the coupon code LoveStreetNew10 on the shopping cart page. Plus, receive free shipping on any order over $95!

I remember finding that company a while back and found sooo many things to add to my “want” list 😛 I never ordered, though – and with 10% off I now have no excuse. The cereal they sent you sounds amazing. I’m game for anything with figs. And I think a banana was the perfect candidate to eat with the chocolate spreads, too 🙂

Ha, indeed, I could’ve rattled off far more “wish list” items than just those (like camu camu powder and Peruvian purple corn extract and raw wild jungle peanuts, hello!), so you’re right, there is no excuse for either of us to not take advantage of the 10% off deal!

All their cereals and granolas sound amazing, but I’m not sure any could top the vanilla cookie crumble. I wish they sold that in “real”-cereal-sized boxes.

In retrospect, I should have mixed one of the chocolate spreads with the macnut butter, ooh!

AMBER!!! That banana photo!! *collapses into paroxyms of laughter*

I can’t…. speak… I feel too naughty saying it looks tasty and I want it in my mouth….

    *giggles hysterically*

::stifles laughter:: Oh, you noticed something about that photo, did you? Made you a tad uncomfortable, did it? 😉 Haha! Not my intention, seriously! It’s amazing how many accidentally-potentially-naughty photos I seem to take…something subconscious is at work here.

I will say, though, that every time I typed the word “spread” next to “chocolate,” I was getting mental images galore. ! =X

      • November 6, 2010 11:09 pm

Amber, you have *got* to stop making all these innocent words indistinguishable from naughtiness in my mind! Now we’ve got “spread” to worry about too?! 😛 I swear, I was completely innocent before I met you.

          Riiight…sure you were 😉

Why haven’t I thought about dipping a banana in chocolate? That looks really good! In fact, that particular banana looks perfect. Your pictures are so clear!

There’s something on your wishlist I would definitely like to try: Chocolate Chunk Bonbons
    Mmm :o)

Banana + chocolate is one of the best combos ever (just behind banana + PB).
      The bonbons do look extra-good!

mmmmm soooo lucky!!! I cant wait ’till people want to send me some goodies! haha 🙂
If you were to only buy one thing…what would it be!? I might need to start food shopping online 🙂
Down here in South Beach the best grocery store we have is a small Whole Foods…I miss my natural food stores in LA and NY!!!

Hehe! It took nearly two years of blogging for me to get to that point, but it finally started happening 🙂

If I were to buy just one of these items I received samples of, I think I’d have to go with the Vanilla Cookie Crumble Cereal. It was just too crunchy and good! Of the items on my “wish list,” I think Brazilnut protein powder is the one I want the most.

I too am envious of those cities that are such a goldmine for foodies!

That spread looks to die for!!!

Is there anything better than pure, raw, natural, unadulterated chocolate? 🙂 This is the way chocolate SHOULD be!

  6. November 7, 2010 5:47 am

The Natural Food Store in Anchorage carries Love St products (but at Alaska prices) and I’ve been intrigued for some time about their stuff. I’m amazed by your energy, getting reviews out when you have all your coursework too!

And I’m envious – I love reviewing products and need to do some more legwork to get to try some more 😉 I got brazilnut protein powder recently from a different company and am going to review it soon – I’m just waiting for them to let me know how they produce it.

    beautiful pics!
    love

I feel like I have such a backlog of material to get through, especially reviews, so I’ve resorted to posting on the weekends too! Guess I should’ve just gone ahead and signed up for Vegan MoFo, since I seem to be doing it anyway…

It does take some legwork initially – I had to jump that hurdle too 🙂 Can’t wait to see your Brazilnut protein review! I’ve wanted to try some for months!

Yummy! Macadamia nut butter? Chocolate spreads? Cookie crumble cereal?! This looks like an early Christmas to me 🙂 Have fun sampling all of these tasty treats!

I wish I could still have fun sampling them…cuz…they’re long gone! 😛 Maybe I need to get myself an early Christmas gift by picking up some more of that cookie crumble cereal…
