A double-Bliss dinner in Dallas

June 27, 2011

What’s more blissful than dinner at Bliss Raw Café & Elixir Bar in Dallas, one of my favorite raw restaurants ever? Dinner at Bliss with The Blissful Chef, Christy Morgan! Christy and I have been Facebook pals for awhile now, and when she moved to Dallas a few months ago, we knew a meetup was in our future. Finally, the week after Memorial Day, we made it happen!

Christy brought along her boyfriend James (who’s affiliated with DallasVegan.com) and I, of course, had Matt in tow.

I got my usual Hemp Horchata to drink…

…and Christy and James shared a kale salad to start.

For the main meal, James ordered the Rawko Tacos, one of my favorite dishes at Bliss.

Christy had the lasagna.

I tried the Primavera Bowl (kelp noodles, basil pesto, sundried tomatoes, garlic, bell peppers, and olives) for the first time…

…and Matt got the Greek Pizza (check out those humongous capers!).

For dessert, Christy and James shared the Pumpkin Cheesecake. I’ve tried it before, and it’s amazing!

Matt and I opted for the Cherry Cheesecake.

It was supremely cherry-y, and I might’ve even detected a hint of cherry liqueur in there. Delish!

All in all: a great meal, with great people, at a GREAT restaurant! Be sure to check out Christy’s account of it here too.

And now, the last meal of this particular road trip: another raw lunch at Matthew Kenney OKC on the way home. Matt and I shared the Spicy Vegetable Spring Rolls as an appetizer: glass (i.e. kelp) noodles, shiitake mushrooms, carrots and red pepper, and tamarind fondue.

I loved the Avocado Dragon Roll from last time so much that I got it again as my main dish.

Matt ate the Spring Vegetable Sandwich: young lettuce, radish, avocado, cucumber, and sweet pea puree.

Finally, on the way out, we grabbed a Mango Creamsicle smoothie to go.

I’ve got even more travels to share with you in the next week or two, including our recent trip to Toronto, Canada!

      Aw, thank you ::blush::

There should be an “order everything” option at some restaurants…one bite of each thing on the menu!

You’re killing me with all of these 105/MK OKC meals lately! 🙂

Ditto, Ela! Which reminds me, I completely forgot to tell you, I had a dream a few weeks ago about meeting you. I was on an airplane somewhere above Alaska that they found out couldn’t fly, so they drove it down a highway instead. My companions and I were dropped off in a snowy town and we decided to go get Indian food. I stole away for a bit to come by your house, where I found you in bed with some crackers or something like that. We sat and talked for awhile (about what, I know not), I met Phil, and then I went back to meet my friends. Weird!

Amber, that’s too funny. You’d be welcome to stop by in such a situation, or any other. Me in bed with crackers is a hilarious scenario! I’m not much of a cracker gal, and ‘bed crumbs’ is a peeve! I have had dreams of meeting blogger friends a few times too, sometimes a whole writhing mass of ’em, with one character morphing into another…

Hehe, I didn’t figure you would be the “crackers in bed” type; in fact, I remember in my dream being surprised to find you like so!

Wow, writhing transmogrifying bloggers? Now’s THAT’s a cool dream!

OMG – those raw tacos look fantastic! Why can’t we have a raw food joint here in KC, where I could just run and pick something up like that… *sigh*

TELL me about it! Maybe someday…

I love hearing about all of your trips out and about. They look like a lot of fun and it all looks so good. Yummy.

Sometimes I get so distracted by how beautiful your eyes are that I almost forget the roiling pit of envy in my tummy that rises up at the right of raw pumpkin cheesecake and hemp horchata. True story.

Aww. I’ll stare at you intently the whole time you eat your raw cheezecake buffet, then.
      Actually, that might be weird.

I’m delighted to see you and Christy had a chance to connect. I am very impressed by the massive portions at Bliss!

You’ve certainly been on the road a lot lately. I hope that you’re feeling a little more settled back at home now – I know you have a lot of recipe testing ahead.

Those massive portions are one of my favorite parts of Bliss. Matt says he gets more full on one plate there than he used to get eating mountains of pizza, burgers, etc. It’s the best restaurant for raw food virgins!

so fun!!! Too bad food like that wasn’t served in mainstream restaurants…

    Looks great. Yay Dallas. 🙂

Wow everything looks so yummy and deelish. I love the look of the ‘taco’s’ so lovely and fresh. Bliss’ food looks amazing and ALIVE and not all dehydrated, which I prefer. Of course, my dream is to get over to Matthew Kenney someday and eat at his restaurant and see the whole operation. The food there looks cutting edge divinely insane!! Loving your food travels girlie – thanks a bunch from little ol’ me in Hong Kong. Love to you and keep raw-kin! xox Priscilla

That’s true, Bliss doesn’t dehydrate that much of their food. It’s refreshing, hydrating, and LIVING! 😀

You better let me know when you make it to MK-OKC – I’ll try to meet you down there!

I went to Bliss for the first time about 2 months ago when I was in Dallas…almost met up with Christy too….but sigh, I was in such a rush. Maybe next time. Looks like a lot of fun!! That place is awesome 🙂
