My Favorite Things: June edition

June 30, 2011

Awhile back, I got to try BumbleBars for the first time. All the ingredients in each sesame-seed-based bar are ethically-sourced, gluten-free, and (despite the honeybee on the packaging) vegan.

They have tons of flavors, but they sent me some of their nutty ones to try…

…with the exception of this Cherry Chocolate bar. Check out those HUGE dried cherries in there! All the BumbleBars were quite tasty, and very filling to boot.

I received this jar of raw, organic Pistachio Pesto from Living Tree Community Foods.

This was really stellar. It’s like black olive tapenade and sundried tomato pesto got together and had a love child. Salty, chunky, and delicious!

I received a package from Amazing Grass that included some Whole Food Energy Bars

…some packets of Amazing Meal (the chocolate flavor ROCKS!)…

…and an assortment of Green Superfoods powders. I love these single-serving packets; they’re great to take on-the-go. Thanks, Amazing Grass!

These Kardea Nutrition bars are some of the most unique bars out there. The unusual flavors, like Lemon Ginger and Chai Spice, were great, and the bars are the perfect size for snacking, with 150 calories and 7 grams of protein apiece. They’re also low in sugar and high in fiber. Yummy!

Lastly, I received some very cool organic superfoods from Vivapura.

It was nice to finally try raw jungle peanuts for the first time, and this chewy dried jackfruit was awesome.

Here’s what really got me excited, though:

Coconut. Lucuma. Vanilla. This stone-ground Coconut CrΓ©me is like the world’s best coconut butter, but BETTER. It’s soft and silky right out of the jar, with wonderfully subtle yet unmistakable whispers of lucuma and vanilla. TDF. (To-die-for.) I used some of it to make a treat last night that I’ll share with you in a couple days!

Do you have any fun plans for the weekend?
Matt and I are going out of town YET AGAIN! Sheesh.
Have a fun and safe 4th of July weekend, everyone!

Every single one of those products looks so good. I am slowly becoming addicted to jackfruit.

There’s a vegan restaurant in KC called FÜD that makes jackfruit “fish” tacos…that reminds me that I still need to try that dish!

Ooh, good call on the Amazing Grass bar having a bit of milk. Tricky, tricky.

I tried Zumba once and, well, embarrassed myself…not sure I’ll ever try it again! πŸ˜›

Wow, pistachio pesto and the tapenade’s love child!?? You have GOT to be kidding me. One of my fav fruits here in Hong Kong is the jackfruit – it smells like a lollie (or candy) store. I bet the dried one is really good too – I love it fresh! Great sneak peaks at some fun raw treats! Nice work there. Thank you again for your wonderful ‘insight’ and love to you from Hongkers aka: The big noodle! Lol! xx

I still need to try fresh jackfruit!

I would find it ridiculously hard NOT to eat that coconut right out of the jar as is. Some great products here Amber πŸ™‚

I’ve been having that very problem. πŸ˜‰

Wow you are so blissed and blessed! So many yummy-sounding products! I reviewed Amazing Grass’ stuff a while back (oh yeah, you won my giveaway!) and was really impressed with them. The Kardea bars sound awesome and I love your description of the Living Tree product.

Dried jackfruit is good but can’t hold a candle to fresh. But coconut butter with lucuma and vanilla sounds TDF and OOTW (out of this world).
    Have a great trip! (again!)
    love

I did win your giveaway! That greens powder disappeared fast, so it was nice to get a “restock.”

Amazing grass is pretty awesome! I love the chocolate flavor in smoothies; but I haven’t been brave enough to try the wheat grass yet.

The coconut butter looks freaking amazing!!!! Can’t wait to see what you cooked up with that :0

When I was going through my US photos from 2007 the other week for one of my TIme Warp posts, I came across some hilariously awful photos (lighting, blurriness) of these Bumblebars! I remember liking them, but not quite as much as other bars available in the US because of their sticky texture (problematic when eating them on a 16 hour Amtrak, for example, when you’re doing everything in your power *not* to use to disgusting train bathroom!).

    / end self-involved story. πŸ˜‰

That coconut lucuma creation looks amazepants! Still can’t get proper plain coconut butter here, just coconut oil, though I actually have seen a cashew coconut butter that I’m longing to try!

Have an amazing weekend, my darling! You’ll soon have visited every city in the US, I’m sure, and be ready to come down under πŸ˜›

Hi lovely. I was really excited when I saw your comment on vegan lisa’s site about the raw ice cream sandwich challenge. I was hoping to see what you came up with. Guess you’ve been busy, though. Looks like your having fun. Have a happy 4th of July.

BTW, I was thinking of you when I spontaneously decided to enter the latest Hot Raw Chef contest. My video isn’t as good as yours (I voted for you at the time, which is why I got the e-mail about entering the contest), but I had fun conquering my fears. Please check it out (http://rawdorable.blogspot.com/2011/06/conquering-5-in-5.html) and vote for me. Thanks πŸ™‚

Kudos on conquering your fears – I had to get over those same fears when I was doing mine, and I came thisclose to chickening out and not entering. But thankfully, I did, and boy did it ever pay off! πŸ™‚ Best of luck in the contest, m’dear – your recipe and video look great!

I ALMOST bought some of that LTCF pistachio pesto a few months ago, but didn’t. I’m thinking I should definitely try it in the near future. It looks awesome.

No plans for the Fourth of July weekend. I just work. Lame-o. 😦

  13. July 1, 2011 8:03 pm

Chewy jackfruit!? That sounds amazing (odd, but amazing!). I think I might head to the post office to start having your mail forwarded my way (because that’s legal and all) πŸ™‚

OMG this all looks so great. Are you trying to get me to go shopping? πŸ™‚ I love the little travel packs of amazing grass. The coconut lacuma looks really neat. I just made some pistachio pesto a couple of weeks ago. Love this post.
